Paycom Interns Fill 600 Backpacks With School Supplies for OKC Students

Partnering with the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City, Paycom gives local students a head start with funds raised during Paycom’s Customer Service Week.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (July 26, 2019) — Paycom Software, Inc. (“Paycom”) (NYSE: PAYC) continued its community outreach efforts by stuffing over 600 backpacks with school supplies for the upcoming school year on Friday, July 26, at Paycom’s corporate headquarters. Paycom’s summer interns led the outreach efforts, and the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City distributed the backpacks to students living in the Oak Grove housing community in Oklahoma City.

“This allows our interns to align with our culture,” said Tiffany McGowen, vice president of recruiting at Paycom. “Serving is one of our core values – as is learning – so this helps to bridge all that together by allowing them to serve the communities that we love and support, but also by paying it forward. Learning is so important at the elementary school level, where these backpacks will be going, but also throughout the interns’ entire careers.

“Our No. 1 value is winning, and if you’re really going to win, it’s more than just your day-to-day job. It’s taking that, then bringing it all together and giving back to your community.”

Kelly Kay, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City, said her organization values the collaborative effort to help students.

“Working with partners like Paycom helps make a lasting impact on our community,” Kay said. “At the Y, we work with families and children in the Oak Grove neighborhood on a daily basis, and we are excited that Paycom is giving back, allowing these kids to have the supplies they need on the first day of school.”

Madison Hale, a human capital management and leadership intern at Paycom and a social entrepreneurship major at Oklahoma Baptist University, said Paycom’s dedication to community outreach was one of the biggest factors in her internship pursuit.

“This is an example of what Paycom values,” said Hale. “Not only are they investing in us as interns, but they are also investing in our community. Service is very important to me – it’s what my major is centered around. So the fact that Paycom values that so heavily is what really attracted me to them.”

The school supplies and backpacks were purchased in part from proceeds gathered by employees during Paycom’s internal Customer Service Week celebration. The annual event is designed to thank Paycom employees for their ongoing level of stellar customer service, and includes a specific nonprofit or cause to which they can contribute.
