Employee Spotlight: Meet Alicia

Bonny Calfy | October 30, 2017

Alicia is a Paycom service supervisor, and has been a member of the Paycom family since August 2013. Recently, I reached out and asked her to share her story.

Describe what you do.

I currently lead a team of six team leaders and a group of administrative leaders in our service department. Our department focuses on long-term client support. In my role, I help to identify and roll out process improvements to my teams to ensure that our goals are constantly met. As a supervisor, my biggest job is to provide consistent evaluation and feedback to my leaders so that they can bring their best to their teams and the clients that their teams support.

What advice would you give a new employee for being successful at Paycom?

Come hungry, not just mentally, but also physically. You need to be hungry for growth, learning and opportunity every single day! Paycom loves to bring in snacks, so get ready to eat, a lot! In all seriousness, though, I would urge every single new employee to have their “why” in their back pocket at all times. Why did you choose Paycom? Why this career? Why do you even work at all? Knowing your “why” will help you get through the hardest days and will keep you humble on your best days. Always, always know you your “why!”

What’s the one word you would choose to describe Paycom, and why?

Change. My favorite thing about Paycom is that we never are stuck in a rut. You will never hear the words “because that is how it has always been done” in these buildings. Change is the only constant at Paycom, and that is a good thing! Change is sometimes hard for people to understand. For us at Paycom, it is a way of life!

What is your greatest accomplishment at Paycom?

One of the best things about being a leader at Paycom is our direct involvement with the growth of other leaders. The day that I promoted my first specialist to team leader was my most memorable accomplishment for sure!

What makes you proud to work at Paycom?

I am proud to work at Paycom because I know that I am making a difference in my life and the lives of those around me. Not just my teams, but as a payroll and human capital management provider, we are impacting the lives of thousands of HR professionals every single day and, even greater, the lives of employees across the country. I get to wake up and suit up and be the best leader I can for myself, for my team and for my company every single day. I am proud every single time Paycom shows up on a list of companies like Top Workplaces in Oklahoma or Fast Tech 25. I am proud because I am helping to show my sons what a life of hard work and dedication can provide.

Where has been your favorite place to travel, and why?

This year, we were able to travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina, as a family. My boys were able to see the ocean for the first time and it was magical! Anytime I am able to take a vacation with my family and allow my sons to see and experience something they haven’t before is my favorite!

Employee Spotlight: Meet AliciaWhat are some of your favorite hobbies outside of work?

Most of the year you will find our family at the lake. When we aren’t relaxing at the lake, we are generally running from one kid’s sport to the next. When I do have free time, I love to go shopping and spend time with my friends and extended family.

If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one quality or ability, what would it be and why?

I wish when speaking with someone, I could give them grace. I always desire that the first thing I would expect from someone in return were grace.
