Building the Future: Talking Tech With an IT Systems Analyst

Lyndsey Hyde | August 23, 2024

Vasko S. (he/him) has been with Paycom for six years as an IT Systems Analyst. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems degree at Walsh College in Michigan, where he’s now working on his Master of Science in IT Leadership degree. He’s on track to graduate in Summer 2024 with honors in large part, he says, due to the support he receives from his leaders at Paycom.

Vasko shared his interest in workflow automation with his leaders, who encouraged his growth and education and allowed him to work on valuable projects to gain experience. Ultimately, he hopes to move toward a leadership position as he takes advantage of the many leadership development programs Paycom offers. Vasko attributes his healthy work/life balance to Paycom’s benefits, including family leave and paid time off.

We sat down with Vasko to learn more about his role and get tips for those looking at a career as an IT Systems Analyst.

What does a day in the life of an IT Systems Analyst look like?

I work on applications that integrate with the Paycom app, robotic process automation (RPA) and shipping tools. I work with vendors, internal developers and Software Quality Assurance to create solutions, while assisting various business units to help them solve problems. We build technical partnerships for future success.

We help mail thousands of check shipments to clients weekly, ensure our vendors are providing the best possible service to our clients and automate mundane repetitive tasks for onboarding and supporting clients.

What classes/experience prepared you for this role?

My interest in working with computers and solving puzzles guided me to my current role. Technical classes, including various programming languages, helped me become more efficient in my role when automating workflows and tasks. Leadership classes are teaching me to focus on the bigger picture of the work and helping me plan.

What is something that you learned or wish you would have learned before getting to Paycom that would’ve better prepared you?

Creating strong partnerships and bonds with colleagues helped me overcome many challenges. We’re not alone, and we can rely on various teams for their expertise to achieve our goals.

What drew you to Paycom in the first place?

I used to live near Paycom’s headquarters, and the green lights from the buildings on campus were what initially guided me to look into the company. In my research, I found Paycom was a technology company that focused on growth and provided employees the opportunity to work on the latest tech.

What advice do you have for someone going into this role?

Be curious. Shadow multiple people within the team, and take initiative — that’s how you’ll create change for our clients and our technology.

Curiosity led Vasko to a career committed to building partnerships and pushing our tech forward. You, too, can innovate and make an impact while sharpening your skills to simplify the life of employees and businesses.
