With the many shifts in today’s job market, employees are taking their careers in unique directions — some even returning to jobs they once left! A “boomerang employee” (named after the V-shaped throwing tool) leaves a company for a time before eventually coming back.
According to LinkedIn, these workers are on the rise (or rebound). In 2021, 4.5% of new hires were boomerang workers, up from 3.9% in 2019.
At Paycom, our people are our most important asset. Our culture embraces each team member’s unique talents and journeys. Brandy, a Paycom service supervisor, came back to a warm welcome.
Here’s what Brandy said about boomeranging back to Paycom.
What do you do at Paycom?
I lead several teams in operations and internal and customer support. I work directly with the team leaders over these groups to develop them and their team members.
What inspired you to return to the Paycom team?
The people! There are so many individuals at Paycom who had a large impact on my career. I believe if you invest in your growth at Paycom, your peers will invest back into you.
What was it like coming back?
It’s been a unique experience. There are moments when it’s as if I never left, and there are others where it seems like there’s been so much evolution I forget I was only gone for a year.
Have you noticed any changes or updates in your department?
Yes, in our mindset and energy. I’ve also noticed a push toward scalability that helps make our long-term goals more attainable.
How have you grown professionally during your tenure at Paycom?
I’ve developed my leadership skills exponentially. I also gained a broader perspective on how decisions impact individuals, teams and the organization.
What most excites you about your role?
Seeing others grow! The best feeling is seeing someone confidently tackle a task that used to be intimidating or uncomfortable because they took time to sharpen their skills.
What advice would you give a former Paycom employee looking to come back?
As we evolve and learn over time, so does Paycom. It’s full of people who care. I believe in our future and am grateful to come back. I would encourage someone considering coming back to think about what they really want for their future. They should ask themselves, “Could Paycom help me get there?” After all, it did for me!
