We interviewed one of our software development supervisors, Avinash, to learn more about his Paycom journey.
Describe what you do.
As a software development supervisor at Paycom, I work with my team of developers on payroll and tax-related software developments. I also work closely with our Product Management, Legal Department and QA teams to come up with software solutions that help our clients stay in compliance while streamlining and automating their payroll processes.
What is your favorite thing about your team?
There are a lot of things I love about my team. One of my favorite things is that they are always ready to be challenged. With such a passionate team of software developers, we always look forward to do hard things, work together to solve the toughest problems on an enterprise level and have fun while doing it.
What advice would you give a new employee for being successful at Paycom?
Be willing to learn, experiment and take extreme ownership of the projects you are working on. There has been a lot of growth at Paycom, and we are confident there will be a lot more. The more you are willing to learn, experiment, get yourself involved and take ownership of the projects you are working on, the higher the potential for you to grow personally and professionally.
What’s the one word you would choose to describe Paycom, and why?
Agility. Being agile is very important in order for us to respond quickly to changes happening in the market, analyze the challenges and be a leader in delivering solutions to those challenges. For the six years I’ve been with Paycom, I experienced this agility firsthand in several of the projects I was a part of.
What is your greatest accomplishment at Paycom?
My greatest accomplishment at Paycom over the years would be as a supervisor. I played a role in helping our development department grow to its current size and develop the incredible product we are able to offer our clients. I look forward to contributing more toward the growth and the product.
What makes you proud to work at Paycom?
It’s always a proud feeling to know how much Paycom values every individual employee. It’s also even more satisfying to know that the product we develop is used by millions of people. And we are just getting started.
What are some of your favorite hobbies outside work?
Outside work, I enjoy reading about astronomy and astrophysics. I also enjoy cooking and traveling. I love trying out local cuisine when I’m traveling.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Omelet. There’s just so many different variations in how an omelet can be made across different cuisines, it never gets boring.
