Since 1996, the American Payroll Association has held a national campaign during the week of Labor Day. National Payroll Week (NPW) is a time to celebrate America’s 150 million wage earners and thank the payroll professionals who pay them. Through contributions, collections, reports and deposits, their efforts supplied approximately two trillion dollars collected by the annual revenue of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
National Payroll Week has come and gone; however, this year, at Paycom, we decided to do things a little differently. Last Monday morning, we kicked off National Payroll Week at our corporate headquarters. Even though we’re a week behind, we thought payroll professionals deserved a full week of thanks and praise.
Every year, National Payroll Week is a great spectacle at Paycom. Usually there is an overarching theme teams rally behind. In preparation, teams from every department band together to show their Paycom spirit through chant, a poster board contest, a talent show and relay races. To finish it all off, the top four teams compete in a real canoe race for the championship trophy.
We would like to recognize our winning teams:
1st Place Winner: Arielle and the Little Mermaids
“NPW really helped us bond as a team and see each other as more than just coworkers. The Stormtrooper trophy, Dave, is proudly standing in our cube as a result of our win!” –Arielle, Paycom Specialist
2nd Place Winner: Revenge of the Devs
“I view National Payroll Week as our Paycom Olympics. It brings all the different departments together and allows us to compete in a friendly environment as a whole company.” –Shawn, Lead Software Architect
3rd Place Winner: Mad Tax in the Paycom Dome
“I loved being a part of NPW because it is a fun and creative way to build team work. Seeing all the creativity from the teams is motivating and a lot of fun. It’s also fun to see a person’s hidden talents.” – Aaron, Unemployment Tax Specialist III
4th Place Winner: Marketing McFlys
“National Payroll Week is not only a fun, creative event, it’s also a great way we give back to our community through our canned food drive for The Salvation Army.” –Bonny, Recruitment Marketing Strategist
Ultimately, National Payroll Week is a celebration and a time to give thanks to those hard-working individuals who process our checks. Everyone has a different approach, but whatever your method is, don’t forget to show your appreciation.
