Giving can take many forms, and any act of kindness, big or small, can make a significant impact on other people’s lives.
At Paycom, service is integral to who we are as a company. One of our key values is, “We serve.” Not only do we work to make employees’ lives easier through our software, we also seek to serve our immediate and global communities through giving and volunteerism.
Here’s how (and why) giving at Paycom is about cultivating communities and instilling a spirit of service within our people. It all starts by empowering our employees to be part of something bigger than themselves.
Why we give
You may have read this Winston Churchill quote: “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” The data bears this out. According to the American Psychological Association, charitable giving is one of the top six predictors of life satisfaction around the world.
That same research, which looked at data from 200,000 people in 136 countries, found that spending money on other people led to improved happiness overall. In effect, small increases in happiness from giving to others may contribute to greater well-being.
We’ve found that our employees and communities thrive when we lean into service. More than that though, we believe giving and service are integral to living a meaningful life. A workplace that empowers its employees to do both encourages better well-being and purpose-filled work.
How Paycom supports employee giving
Paycom encourages employees to give to organizations they value through our employee giving program. In turn, Paycom employees donated $210,000 directly to charitable organizations in 2022.
In all, our company and people provided nearly $2.3 million in support to our communities last year, including employee donations and volunteer hours and corporate giving and sponsorships. It’s all part of serving our communities and making the world a better place.
Our giving spans a wide range of causes and organizations, from our local communities to national philanthropies. Among them are the National Juneteenth Museum, the National Alliance on Mental Illness and regional food banks.
How our people serve their communities
A survey by the Journal of Happiness Studies found people who volunteered in the past year were more satisfied with their lives and general health. We couldn’t agree more. At Paycom, we continuously strive to foster a culture of holistic well-being — one that empowers our employees across the country to serve their communities.
To connect our people with service opportunities, Paycom hosted its inaugural philanthropy fair encouraging volunteerism at its Oklahoma City and Grapevine campuses. Our Sooner State employees also regularly volunteer at the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and many more organizations. Many of our Texas-based team members volunteer at parks and local events. Across the country, our sales teams spent hours volunteering at animal shelters and Ronald McDonald House Charities, among other organizations.
The bottom line: At Paycom, we believe in the power of giving — not because it’s good for business, but because it’s good for our people and communities.
